How Cato Licensing Works (High Level)

Cato uses a subscription‑based licensing model built around how your users and locations connect to the Cato Cloud.
Think of it as four layers:
  1. Base connectivity (required)
  2. Security services (optional but common)
  3. Monitoring & visibility (optional)
  4. Managed & professional services (optional)
You only pay for what applies to your environment.

1. Base Licenses (Required for All Customers)

Bandwidth Pool (Sites)

This is the foundation for office and site connectivity.
  • Licensed by total bandwidth (Mbps)
  • Shared across all sites in the same geographic region
  • Covers:
    • Internet access
    • Site‑to‑site traffic
    • Cloud and data‑center access
What affects cost:
  • Number of sites
  • Country where sites are located
  • Internet speed per site
Example: 3 offices in Canada with 200 Mbps each → shared Bandwidth Pool sized accordingly.

ZTNA Users (Remote & Mobile Users)

ZTNA licenses cover people who connect remotely to company resources.
  • Licensed per user
  • Applies to users working from home, traveling, or mobile
  • Uses Zero Trust access instead of traditional VPNs
What affects cost:
  • Number of remote or hybrid users
Office‑only users behind a site typically do not require ZTNA licenses.

2. Security Licenses (Optional)

Security is added on top of the base licenses.
Important rule:
Security services must cover 100% of your licensed bandwidth and users.
You cannot partially protect traffic.

Common Security Options

  • Threat Prevention – malware, IPS, DNS, phishing protection
  • Advanced Threat Prevention (ATP) – adds sandboxing and remote browser isolation
  • App & Data Security – CASB + Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
  • Endpoint Protection (EPP) – lightweight endpoint security
  • Assets Security – device visibility and segmentation
  • AI Security – controls how users and apps interact with AI services
How pricing works:
  • Most security licenses are sized to match your Bandwidth Pool + ZTNA users
  • Some services are user‑based or device‑based
We help you choose only what you actually need.
